FRP Panel Weather Observation Cabins

Home » Applications » Cabin Solutions

Weather observation cabins are independent units designed specifically for meteorological monitoring and data acquisition. They are typically used in meteorological stations, disaster early warning systems, scientific research facilities, and other locations, such as field meteorological observation stations, airport meteorological radar stations, coastal storm monitoring points, plateau ecological meteorological observation points, and forest fire prevention meteorological stations.

TOPOLOGROUP provides customized services throughout the entire process, from solution design and structural optimization to implementation and delivery, based on observation needs, installation environment, and equipment configuration.

Structural Configuration: Steel Frame + FRP Sandwich Panels

The weather observation cabin adopts a composite structure of steel frame + FRP sandwich panels, balancing both strength and practicality:

  • Steel Frame: Made of high-strength steel welded together, providing excellent wind and earthquake resistance. This ensures the structural stability of the cabin under harsh environmental conditions, capable of withstanding extreme weather impacts such as strong winds and heavy snow.
  • FRP Sandwich Panels: The main enclosure material of the cabin, composed of “weather-resistant FRP outer skin + insulating foam core.” The outer skin is formed by composite molding using specialized weather-resistant FRP sheets, while the core material is a flame-retardant foam, ensuring thermal insulation, load-bearing, and safety performance.

Core Advantages: Adaptable to All Weather Observation Scenarios

  • Insulation and Thermal Design for Extreme Weather

The dense, airtight FRP outer skin and the thermal conductivity of the insulating foam core material are ≤0.03W/(m・K), far exceeding that of traditional metal cabins. Whether in -40℃ freezing temperatures, 60℃ scorching heat, or torrential rain and hail, the cabin maintains a stable environment, protecting instruments and equipment from drastic temperature and humidity changes and providing a comfortable working space for on-site maintenance personnel.

  • Lightweight and High-Strength for Convenient Transportation and Installation

The FRP sandwich panel weighs only 1/3 to 1/2 of a steel sandwich panel of the same thickness, allowing for rapid transport to remote observation points by truck or helicopter.

  • Durable, Reducing Maintenance Costs

FRP material itself possesses excellent corrosion resistance and UV resistance, does not rust or age, requires no regular painting maintenance, and can withstand outdoor humidity, salt spray, acid rain, and other corrosive elements, with a service life of over 15 years.

  • Electrical insulation and more flexible wiring layout

FRP sandwich panels are natural electrical insulators with an insulation resistance of ≥10¹²Ω, completely eliminating the risk of short circuits and leakage caused by the conductivity of metal compartments, ensuring the safety of instruments, equipment, and personnel. At the same time, wiring channels can be directly embedded inside the sandwich panels, resulting in a concealed and orderly cable layout.
