What is a curtain side truck?
Curtainside trucks combine the protective features of a box truck with the loading and unloading flexibility of a flatbed truck. High-strength flexible tarpaulins (curtainsides) replace traditional fixed panels on both sides of the vehicle. These tarpaulins are opened and closed quickly, like a curtain, making cargo loading and unloading more efficient and convenient. This design gives curtainside trucks significant advantages in fast loading and unloading, as well as transporting a wide range of cargo. Consequently, they are widely used in less-than-truckload (LTL) logistics, palletized transport, and building materials distribution in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Advantages of Curtainside Trucks in Transportation
- Efficient Loading and Unloading: The sides open completely, allowing for direct access from forklifts and cranes, making it easy to load extra-long and extra-wide cargo.
- Lightweight Design: The streamlined design reduces overall weight, resulting in lower fuel consumption and increased payload compared to fully enclosed vans.
- Lower Cost: Curtainside trucks are less expensive to manufacture and maintain than fixed-panel trucks, and the tarpaulin can be replaced separately if damaged.
