What is a curtain side truck?

Curtainside trucks combine the protective features of a box truck with the loading and unloading flexibility of a flatbed truck. High-strength flexible tarpaulins (curtainsides) replace traditional fixed panels on both sides of the vehicle. These tarpaulins are opened and closed quickly, like a curtain, making cargo loading and unloading more efficient and convenient. This design gives curtainside trucks significant advantages in fast loading and unloading, as well as transporting a wide range of cargo. Consequently, they are widely used in less-than-truckload (LTL) logistics, palletized transport, and building materials distribution in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Advantages of Curtainside Trucks in Transportation

  • Efficient Loading and Unloading: The sides open completely, allowing for direct access from forklifts and cranes, making it easy to load extra-long and extra-wide cargo.
  • Lightweight Design: The streamlined design reduces overall weight, resulting in lower fuel consumption and increased payload compared to fully enclosed vans.
  • Lower Cost: Curtainside trucks are less expensive to manufacture and maintain than fixed-panel trucks, and the tarpaulin can be replaced separately if damaged.

Body Configuration and Details

  • High-strength PVC-coated tarpaulin, tear-resistant, weather-resistant, and waterproof, available in a variety of colors and printed logos.
  • Aluminum-skin sandwich panel or FRP sandwich panel (plywood core or PET foam core is recommended for optimal strength and lightweight).
  • Non-slip aluminum or steel. Steel offers high load-bearing capacity, while aluminum is corrosion-resistant and easy to clean.
  • Used to secure cargo and prevent it from sliding during transport. Made of stainless steel or galvanized steel.
  • Supported by an aluminum alloy crossbeam, waterproof materials (such as aluminum or fiberglass composite) are available to ensure lightweight and protective performance.
  • Utilizes a pull-rod tensioner with stainless steel fasteners for easy operation and quick, secure locking.
